In a recent interview, the 45 year-old actress opened up about her time with the Mission Impossible star and what went wrong along the way. And, from the sounds of it, the breakup has left some wounds that have left to heal.
Nicole’s interview was published in the 20th Birthday Special Issue of Australia’s Who magazine. In it, she blames a lot of her and Tom’s problems on jumping the gun on marriage.
“I got married really fast and really young,” Kidman said. “Then, when it didn’t work out, I had to really dig deep and find my way through depression. I have no regrets about all of it. It was all part of growing up.”
At the time of their wedding, Kidman was 23 years old. The couple was married for nearly 10 years before divorcing in 2001.
The actress’ depression, according to the story, was the result of her inability to conceive a child while with Cruise.
During their marriage, though, the couple adopted their two children, Bella and Conner, which Nicole claims made it all worthwhile.
Despite the minor setback of the dark times, Kidman has pretty much moved on with her love life, marrying Keith Urban in 2006.
“There was a long time when I never thought it would happen for me again - and it happened!” she said. “I never, ever take Keith or our love for granted and I always keep in my mind that my dream is to grow very old with him.”
The couple added to their family, welcoming daughters Faith, 21 months, via surrogate, and Sunday Rose, 4, who Nicole carried and birthed herself…
“So the way it just happened with Sunday was like, ‘What?’” she said. “The percentages were so low. It is the miracle in my life.”
Not that she plays favorites… Nicole describes all of her children as the “highlights” of her life.
Nicole’s new movie Paperboy, where she shares the screen with Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, opens in theaters October 13.
