Mitt Romney hasn’t earned hip-hop’s vote just yet…
Following the political controversy that rocked the urban world when Nicki Minaj seemed to support the Republican in her new lyrics, President Obama is speaking up with his feelings on the matter.
The Commander in Chief gave a radio interview with Orlando’s Obie and Lil Shawn where the hosts reminded him of Nicki’s lyrics.
Obama played it cool on the subject of the rapper’s reference, denying that this was her way of coming out as a GOP supporter.
"I'm not sure that's actually what happened," Obama said. "I think she had a song on there… A little rap that said that. But she likes to play different characters, so I don’t know what’s going on there."
The song in question is from a Lil Wayne’s mixtape Dedication 4, which features the “Starships” singer.
“I’m a Republican votin’ for Mitt Romney / You lazy bitches are f*ckin’ up the economy,” Minaj raps.
Since Obama’s statement, Nicki has tweeted her appreciation to the president, thanking him for understanding her sarcasm.
Ha! Thank you for understanding my creative humor & sarcasm Mr. President, the smart ones always do... *sends love & support* @barackobama— Nicki Minaj (@NICKIMINAJ) September 10, 2012
In addition to supporting Nicki in the controversy, Obama added that he and First Lady Michelle have been working on building their rap collection.
“We try to keep up,” he said. “We’ve got a nice hip-hop collection on our iPods.”
He did, however, admit that Sasha and Malia do not listen to Minaj… Sorry Nicki!
