It was the key moment that promoters defined their ad campaign for in the 12th season of “American Idol” and it was over in a flash.

The Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey feud came to a head on last night’s episode of the FOX singing competition series. Unfortunately, compared to what we saw months earlier in the “leaked footage” this catfight was more like a half-hearted meowing match.

It all started when a contestant by the name of Summer Cunningham (is that even her real name?) came in for her audition. She sang a rendition of “Lean On Me,” which was actually pretty good.

Keith Urban asked, “Where do you see yourself as a singer?” and in part of Summer’s response she said, “I’ve done the whole country thing…”

Well that set off a heated debate between the judges panel where Urban, Mariah, and Randy Jackson blabbed mostly nonsense back-and-forth about how to define yourself as a musician.

Meanwhile, with her pink-crowned head literally half-cocked to the side and staring into space, Nicki shut down to avoid the stupidity. Summer stood awkwardly, forgotten completely from the scene.

Her point, when she finally did speak, was: “Why are we picking her apart because of a country comment?” Who would have thought that Nicki Minaj would be the voice of reason on this panel.

Mariah did the whole passive-aggressive thing, unable to admit that she didn’t have a point and was just tagging onto Keith’s stance. A subtle battle ensued.

“You’re right. I can’t help her,” said Nicki, before storming off. ”Maybe I should just get off the f--king panel… I’m over it.”

All in all, it was pretty anticlimactic. Hopefully they have some better tricks up their sleeves to keep the viewers that they still have left tuned in for the rest of the season.
