While we were busy reporting on Kate Middleton pregnancy news, Nick Lachey was apparently busy choking fellow football fans.
In a surprising turn of events, the former 98 degrees star is making headlines due to a fight he was involved in during a San Diego Chargers game on Sunday. Lachey has been accused of using profanity, as well as physical force during the fan-on-fan altercation.
According to TMZ, the former pop star—a devote Bengals fan—got all Olivier Martinez on a Chargers fan during the second half of play.
The fan says Lachey choked him and called his wife a “f*ckin b*tch.”
Lachey was reportedly at the game with a group of friends, getting rowdy throughout. But Chargers fanatics weren’t having any of it and were giving it right back to him. When Lachey made “one particularly offensive comment,” the Chargers fan’s wife got involved.
“Well, he lasted longer than your boy band,” the wife said.
(Oh no you didn’t, girl. Oh no you didn’t…)
That’s when Lachey reportedly unleashed the “f—in b—” comment along with “a host of other profanities.”
Things escalated and the singer shoved the fan to the group. Security staff responded to the incident immediately, ejecting Lachey and his macho pals.
Footage of the altercation, also published via TMZ, confirms the details of the story—sort of.
Lachey took to Twitter shortly after to explain his actions.
“i simply don't appreciate someone turning around and putting their finger in my face,” he wrote. “call me crazy, but that deserved a reaction."
This, of course, after Lachey already bragged on his account about the fight, writing: “Just got kicked out of the chargers stadium and couldn't be prouder! Go Cincy Bengals.”
The Chargers fan is apparently planning to file a police report. Meanwhile, Lachey’s rep is backpedaling as fast as possible.
“This is a gross misrepresentation of what happened,” the rep said in a statement. “It was nothing but a spirited debate between fans of opposing teams. At no point did Nick say anything derogatory to the man's wife and anything to suggest the contrary is simply untrue.”
