Nick Cannon: I Never Thought I'd Be Famous

Even after a marrying a music icon, appearing in Blockbuster films, and landing a cushy network gig, the word “celebrity” still sounds a little weird to Nick Cannon.

We spoke with the “America’s Got Talent” charmer at the Teen Nick Halo Awards in Los Angeles, where we asked him what he would be doing if he wasn’t a celebrity hosting a network competition show.

But Nick seemed more perplexed at the idea of fame rather than career backup plan.

“I'm a celebrity?” he joked. “Before I was considered a celebrity I never thought I would be a celebrity.”

And—whether he realizes it or not—Cannon always manages to look the part on stage. So, we had to ask: What’s the most he’s ever spent on a fashion item?

“Oh, you really want to know that, the most I've ever spent on a fashion item,” said Cannon. “If I told you the answer to that my accountant would probably be really upset with me.”

On choosing between Carly Rae Jespsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and Psy’s “Gangnam Style” as defining song of this year, Cannon’s talent compass pointed to the Canadian hitmaker...

“The song of 2012 would definitely be ‘Call Me Maybe,’” said Cannon.

Meanwhile, the world of “AGT” is currently in flux due to the sudden departure of judge Sharon Osbourne.

As we previously reported, it has been rumored that “90210” vet Shannen Doherty and Twitter addict LeAnn Rimes are being considered to fill Sharon’s spot.

And, speaking of competition shows, Cannon’s wife Mariah Carey is gearing up for her judging spot on FOX’s “American Idol” where she will take the place of diva judge Jennifer Lopez.

Mariah’s $18 million appearance debut is scheduled for January 16.
