Brace yourself, your world might have officially come to an end.
As of today “Teen Mom,” “Teen Wolf,” “Awkward,” “Snooki& JWoww,” “Ridiculousness,” “The Daily Show,” “Tosh.O,” “1,000 Ways to Die,” re-runs of “Entourage" and “Dora the Explorer” are all off the air!
I’m not kidding. Well, that is, they’re off the air if you’re one of DirecTV’s 20 million subscribers.
Due to some kind of a little squabble over something like billion of dollars, DirecTV has dropped all of Viacom’s channels from their cable service.
A total of 17 channels have been cut from the line-up including: A bunch of Nickelodeon channels, Spike, BET, VH1, TV Land, Comedy Central, and MTV.
Go to any one of the above mentioned channels websites and you’ll see video of the atrocity that could fall into the shorts category of political election slander.
Here’s the gist, Viacom wants more money for the privilege of running their programming, DirecTV doesn’t want to pay claiming they would have to pass the expense on to customers, and doesn’t even see the point based on the fact that Viacom puts most of its programming online, for free.
There was some kind of deadline to reach a compromise, but DirecTV decided to drop the channels like a few hours before, to prove a point.
I mean, this whole thing seems worthy of its own Occupy Movement or something, as in it's just rich organizations fighting over sums we as commoners can’t even really comprehend.
Here’s what we do know people, when we want to see Snooki defend her engagement, Jenna embarrass herself, Dora… exploring something, or Rob Dyrdek show us a collection of YouTube videos – we sure as hell don’t want to have to sign in to our computers to do it.
Even the celebrities are having a hard time with this company dispute and are taking to Twitter to express their discontent. Khloe Kardashian tweeted "SpongeBob I will miss you!" Comedian Daniel Tosh said, "thanks everybody and lets all pray this Viacom/directv beef gets squared by next week."
Grow up you all, settle this, and do it now. Otherwise the rest of us are going to be forced to like make plans outside of the house for the evening.
