Your favorite stylist in a bow-tie, Brad Goreski reveals that before he was being adorable on his Bravo reality show, “It’s a Brad, Brad World” he had a cocaine addiction that nearly destroyed him.
Brad reveals that he tried coke for the first time when he was 19 and someone offered it to him at a party, “I thought, ‘What the hell?’ he writes in his upcoming memoir, “Born to Be Brad.”
That was just the start, and Brad says that by age 23 he was painfully thin and had a serious addiction.
“I needed to get help. It was early on a December morning. I was in our bathroom, staring in the mirror, and I didn’t recognize myself. Finally I felt the weight of the situation,” Goreski writes, “I told myself, ‘You can carry on like this, and the drugs will be your life.’ I wasn’t doing anything with my life except wasting it.”
Brad was living with then-boyfriend Nick, who Brad realized wasn’t a great influence. Brad remembers calling up his parents for help.
“I was crying in heaving sobs, saying that I needed to get sober, that Nick and I were breaking up,” Goreski writes, “And I was fine for another few months, going to AA meetings. Until I saw Nick out at a club making out with someone else, I fell off the wagon and forced myself back to AA.”
Fast forward about 10 years and Brad’s career rivals his former mentor Rachel Zoe, he’s got a book, a TV show, and a perfect pair of nerd glasses.
“It was May 3, 2001. This was day one: the first day of the rest of my life,” says Brad.
