Katie Couric May Leave CBS News Early

Her contract doesn't expire until 2011, but Katie Couric is expected to end her anchor job at CBS Evening News as soon as January 2009, reports the Wall Street Journal.

In a statement released on Wednesday, a rep for the program denied the rumors stating, "We are very proud of the CBS Evening News, particularly our political coverage, and we have no plans for any changes regarding Katie or the broadcast."

In another statement provided by another spokeswoman, Couric said, "I am working hard and having fun. My colleagues continue to impress me with their commitment to the newscast, and I am very proud of the show we put on every day."

Meanwhile the Washington Post is reporting that Katie might be given a spot on 60 Minutes or possibly her own talk show. We'll just have to wait and see!
