John Adams Mini Series Recap

The HBO epic miniseries John Adams premiered last night and did far from disappoint. Paul Giamatti plays the title character, one of our Founding Fathers, who eventually becomes our 2nd President. Laura Linney plays his wife, Abigail Adams.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book of the same name by historian David McCullough, Adams is portrayed as a very stubborn yet just, fair and impartial lawyer who, above all, believes that all citizens of the colonies deserve equal rights. He played a very intrinsic part in the founding of our nation.

Adams not only, as the miniseries shows, had an important role in the 1st and 2nd Continental Congresses, but was a key player in fashioning the vote of the colonies to declare their independence from the British crown.

However the real thread of the story lies in the relationship between John Adams and his wife Abigail. Abigail Adams, as we know, was not formally educated but was well read, well spoken, had forward thinking views on both women's rights and slavery, which she and her husband were both opposed to. John often sought the advice of his wife on matters political and otherwise.

This series has a slew of familiar faces in historic roles. Tom Wilkinson as Benjamin Franklin, Justin Theroux as John Hancock, David Morse as George Washington as well as others.

With 5 more parts to go this will be a miniseries well remembered and most likely award winning.
