Sad news to wake up to today…
A tragic shooting took place at the Empire State Building in the morning hours of Friday. At 9:00 a.m. local time, a gunman opened fire on a crowd at the monument, killing one and wounding eight others before being killed by police.
Celebrities have spoken up on Twitter with their reactions to the shooting.
Adrienne Bailon shared her shock at hearing the story...
Then came the sympathies from the Kardashian clan.
Kim also noted that 19 people were shot in Chicago last night, urging her followers to “rethink gun laws.”
Other celebrities to add to the somber conversation on Twitter include Scooter Braun, Marlon Wayans, La La, Kevin Jonas, and even the Justin Bieber fan army. According to the Associated Press, the alleged gunman was a recently fired store worker. The reported shooter, 53-year-old Jeffrey Johnson shot a former colleague to death with a .45-caliber pistol and then began randomly opening fire on the crowd.
On sight officers responded to the blasts in seconds and shot the gunman down.
Authorities have revealed that the shooter had been laid off a year ago from Hazan Imports, a store inside the skyscraper. Witnesses on site saw bodies on the ground and officers tending to the wounds.
With the location of the shooting, the possibility of terrorism was an initial concern but has since been ruled out by federal authorities. The AP reports that the shootings took place in a non-tourist area.
Two weeks prior to this event, police shot down another suspect named Darrius Kennedy who lunged at officers with a kitchen knife.
