Neil Patrick Harris Announces Engagement As New York Celebrates Marriage Equality Bill

Just as news broke that New York governor Andrew Cuomo had signed the state's marriage equality bill Neil Patrick Harris announced that he was engaged to be married to boyfriend David Burtka.

Right before the Governor signed the bill he Tweeted that “he'd sure love to get married.”

"Please, New York Senate, vote in favor of marriage equality today," he said. "My family would really appreciate it."

There was a big celebration in New York last night and I'm sure a lot of people got engaged. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka happened to be one of those couples announcing the news of an engagement via Twitter…of course!

"David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago!" he explained. "We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available. date."
