Natasha Richardson has died after suffering a head injury from a
skiing accident. She was 45.
Richardson, a well respected actress and member of the famed Redgrave family, fell while skiing on the beginners trail on Monday at the Mont Tremblant ski resort near Montreal.
According to the ski patrol, she fell and tumbled down the slope, but she did not strike a tree or another person.
She was not wearing a helmet at the time, but witnesses say she had no visible injuries and was even laughing and joking up to an hour after the fall.
After complaining of a headache, she was taken to Centre Hospitalier Laurentien but then transferred to Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal.
Her husband, actor Liam Neeson, left the set of a movie he was filming in Toronto and rushed to his wife's side.
After being on
life support for nearly two days, she passed away Wednesday at New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital.
Her family released the following statement:
"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
