Don't MISS out on Breaking News!

Many television actors took some R&R during the strike, or moved, or leant a hand in their charity of choice. But My Name Is Earl creator Greg Garcia went where no other Hollywood star went: behind a fast food counter. Garcia says his reason is that he felt he had lost touch with his fan base, and was always cooped up in his office. So January was dedicated to working as a cashier and janitor at a fast food joint, which he declined to name.

"This stemmed from an idea I got while I was working on 'Yes, Dear,' I've wanted to do a book about taking different jobs and what it was like to do them. This was the first. It may be a while before I do the second. But it's just about the fact that we live behind gates and work behind gates, and as a writer you start to lose touch with the audience. You start running out of life experience."

That's what I call dedication. I can't picture a single actor or actress doing something like that for a role. For a day, maybe. But a whole month is quite a different story. I don't even know if I could do it, and I'm no one!

My Name is Earl @ 8pm
Karma chameleon, indeed: The usually good-hearted Earl changes his stripes in tonight's holiday-themed edition. When his post-prison life offers nary a home, job or dime, Earl grows bitter and renounces karma. Worse, he turns to the karmic dark side and regresses back to his old bad self. Man-child Randy, aghast at Earl's nasty backslide, plans a Christmas-morn intervention — but good-old karma may come calling for Earl in unlikely forms. Giovanni Ribisi and Alyssa Milano return in their recurring roles.

30 Rock @ 9pm
The staffers celebrate the holidays with a party---which comes complete with a lusty Santa. The festive occasion marks the arrival of Liz's parents (Buck Henry, Anita Gillette) and her brother (Andy Richter), a fortysomething man with memory loss who thinks he's a high-school senior. Another (unexpected) guest: Jack's mother (Elaine Stritch), who decidedly lacks Christmas cheer.

Survivor: China @ 9pm
So, will Amanda make this move against Todd that she's been talking about or will we have to wait yet another week? Did Denise make the right call in voting out Erik? What was Jaime laughing about at tribal? (James looked pissed though). And isn't it interesting that the players are strategizing based on a final three finale? Wouldn't it be great if Survivor flipped the script again and went back to a two-person finale? Tonight, some of the castaways enjoy a feast on the Great Wall of China. At tribal council, the 12th player is voted out of the game.

Ugly Betty @ 8pm
Perhaps the best part of last episode was thanks to Judith Light who's presence at Bradford's funeral was entertaining. When Wilhelmina appeared (with Marc close behind, stirring up PR), Claire Meade — despite her shackles — swiftly tripped her, causing her to fly six feet deep into the fresh empty grave. Then she promptly held a board members meeting (with Daniel and Alexis) calling a "motion to terminate" Wilhelmina as the creative director of Mode immediately. "Rest in peace, bitch." Nice. Tonight, Wilhelmina's latest image makeover hits a snag. Meanwhile, Betty drags a reluctant Henry on a double date with Hilda and Gio. Betty White appears as herself.

My Name is Earl @ 8pm
Once again, Earl has the opportunity to shave time off of his sentence by coming to the aid of the warden. However, this was for all the marbles — his last six months are to be wiped away (give or take ten days). All he needs to do is successfully implement a convict-victim reconciliation program, originally ill-conceived by the warden as a face-to-face fight opportunity ("Two men enter, one man leaves"). Tonight, when the warden (Craig T. Nelson) denies Earl his promised early release from prison, Earl plans a great escape with help from the gang. Michael Rapaport also guest stars.

30 Rock @ 8:30pm
Last week Frank went gay for an episode. I am not quite sure why NBC was so adamant that that not get out — it's not as if he actually had sex! I hope no one missed the little coda at the end, with Frank dancing at the gay club, but ultimately deciding it wasn't his thing. A flamboyant fella then shouts good-bye to "Sugar Bear," only to get scolded by a peer for making 'em look bad. So funny! Watch as Jack and C.C. (Edie Falco) face a romantic test when she suggests going public with their odd-couple relationship. Meanwhile, Liz tries to satisfy the diva needs of her two stars, Tracy and Jenna. Political commentator James Carville makes an appearance.

Grey's Anatomy @ 9pm
Well they made us wait two weeks to see the conclusion of the last episode. It's been written that Meredith does not do the v.o. for one episode, being replaced by Bailey, which means something is up for Mer. I can't handle another near death experience, so I truly hope they have written something a little more intriguing. We should see some progress between Derek and his lady nurse friend, Rose, but I doubt it will be tonight. With all that crashing, cutting and spurting blood, Part 1 of this two-parter wasn't for the squeamish. Tonight we'll see our docs stitching. Chances are, the "Nazi" will save the real Nazi, while a patient you'd want to see survive — there are four — won't make it. Meanwhile, expect Lexie to have a busy night. First, there's Nick (Seth Green) with the bursting carotid artery. Someone must plug it until the cavalry (Sloan) arrives. Then there's her first Seattle Grace love triangle. Can she hold her own against Ava/Rebecca?

My Name is Earl @ 8pm
Oh, snap! There's not much joy for Joy in a continuing story arc from last week's episode. Joy, fully in the family way and as pushy as ever, prepares to give birth and impatiently pressures Darnell to expedite the process. And a dairy tale emerged last week after newbie prison guard Randy took some convicts out for ice cream. Here's the scoop on that: The outing gave Frank (Michael Rapaport) a prime opportunity to escape, and now he's trying to collect his hidden loot. It all sounds like a slippery slope, indeed. Craig T. Nelson also guest-stars.

Smallville @ 8pm
Clark's desire to be with his mother (onetime "Supergirl" Helen Slater, in a bit of stunt casting) overcomes his common sense. He takes the crystal she's imprisoned within to the Fortress of Solitude and frees her. He finally gets to be with her, but unwittingly releases Kryptonian überbad guy Zor-El, and boy, does he have plans for Earth. The whole he's-Clark's-evil-uncle thing doesn't help, either: Cousin Kara is confused about whether to believe anything Zor-El says. Meanwhile, the Lois Lane-Grant Gabriel relationship heats up to the boiling point.

Grey's Anatomy @ 9pm
We got a glimpse last week of how poor Thatcher (Jeff Perry) has handled the death of his second wife, Susan. (You could almost smell the alcohol on his breath through the TV screen.) Tonight, Meredith will see for herself what's up with not-so-dear old dad. And if that's not enough, Derek will be stepping out with someone else. Meanwhile, the chief made it official last week when he finally gave the chief-resident job to Bailey, but tonight she'll have more than just mother-hen duties on her plate: She'll have to treat her high-school crush ( D.B. Woodside).

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation @ 9pm
It's a sad night for fans of Jorja Fox. Her departure from the series, announced in September, is here. Since Sara was kidnapped at the end of last season, she's been rethinking her future. Tonight, a suspect from one of her past cases returns and it causes her to question her role as a CSI. Obviously, since Fox is quitting the show, Sara is leaving Las Vegas — and Grissom.
