Mariah Carey Apologizes for Memorial Performance

July 08, 2009

Mariah Carey doesn’t think she was completely on her game yesterday during her performance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service. She sang “I’ll Be There” with Trey Lorenz, which was a No.1 hit for the Jackson 5 in 1970.

But Mariah just wasn’t satisfied 100%, so she took to her Twitter page to tell fans how she felt.

She wrote: "Just recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to KJLH in LA (Stevie Wonder's radio station) paying tribute to MJ. Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me.

"I could barely keep myself from crying. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.

One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people. He inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts."

How did we know Mariah would do something like this? Who cares if she wasn’t completely perfect! It was more about the actual song being sung, and the event taking place. We highly doubt too many people are going to look back on yesterday and think about Mimi’s performance.

Its tough enough to perform knowing there will be millions watching but I would have been more unforgiving if the performance was perfect. She showed soul she is human not a robot. Remember this is the girl who had a breakdown several years back and she has been through some terrible stages. I was a fan of hers but lost it when she made a comeback because of her cheap shot quick frill fashion when she had more class and had really had no reason to be so brass. But, as for the dress - no, i wasnt thinking about that just of Michael really - but now that you come to mention it, it wasn;t suitable really. You think about huge stars and you think of MJ, Madonna and MC, but her come back as been so 'me me me' that really puts her second howadays - MJ was passionate about his work. I wouldnt have chosen Mariah really, I would have liked to see Diana Ross sing a song. That wouldve been awesome.

She knew she was horrible. She looked like a low budget hooker that wasn't something you wear to a memorial. And she didn't even stay to the end it looked like she left right after her "performance", that was rude.

MiMoo was TERRIBLE as usual! I said as much when they announced she would perform. She couldn't even hit the high notes, and sounded like an old horse with emphysema. And yes, the cheap hooker dress was just so disrespectful...appalling! A disgrace!

If she could bring herself to just sing a song rather than all this weird yodeling that she does on every single song, maybe she'd get through it. Then again, we're talking pop stars here, not classicly trained world-class artists. You get what you get.

IMO she NEVER sounds good, so I really didn't expect her too yesterday! I honestly do not think she can sing worth a dime. And why does she always need to "conduct" herself while singing????

Everyone knew she wasn't singing well. She was very upset. It was the thought that counted. At least she apologized. This wasn't about a concert, it was a memorial. Some people can handle it better than others. If you had paid to see her in concert, I would understand it if you were angry & disappointed. But it wasn't.

First of all, she was innappropriatly dressed.Who wears a gown cut down to their naval with sequence at 9:30 in the morning for a FUNERAL? Secondly,I thought her performance was terrible.I didn't see her get choked up at all. She just tried to riff too much as ususal. She sounded like she has blown out her vocal chords from yelling her songs rather than singing, just like Whitney has. Trey Lorenze seemed to do all the work. She couldn't even do the one big note she was known for. He had to do it.Third, what was with the constant conducting with her hands? No wonder she's apologizing. Michael was probably covering his eyes and ears.I used to love her and Whitney when they first got started.I think they think they are Diva's,but I think it's all just gone to their heads. They are no longer GREAT!!!
