Kelly Clarkson Breaks Billboard Hot 100 Record

January 28, 2009

Kelly Clarkson has just set a huge record for herself with her latest song My Life Would Suck Without You. The song just made history of Billboard’s Hot 100 by making the biggest leap to #1. By tomorrow, January 29th, the song will be the first one to make the massive leap from #97 to #1.

It’s sold 280,000 digital downloads in its first week on the radio! The song that comes the closest to this feat is Womanizer. It also jumped from 58-38 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and 27-18 on the Mainstream Top 40 list. But before that, Kelly Clarkson held the record for A Moment Like This, which jumped from #52-#1 on the charts.

My Life holds #1 spot on the Digital Chart with 279,605 sold in its first week. This is the 3rd biggest digital song debut for a female artist.

This just proves how much American Idol has changed. Kelly Clarkson is still a major player in the music industry, where as the more recent former Idols aren’t as a significant part of the game. Ok, Carrie Underwood excluded! But she’s more country than mainstream. So when it comes to pop, Kelly is still queen!

She's changed from pop to rock. I don't like her new songs at all.

she's still singing? It seems like everytime American Idol comes up with a new season she emerges from the cave she's been living in, and then when it's over she goes back to hubernating again.

It's a good song. Glad that Kelly's "back"
