June 26, 2008

Coldplay
Calling all unsigned bands, Coldplay is launching a contest online to find the next great band. The winner will get to tour with Coldplay as the opening act for their Viva La Vida tour this summer.

Contestants are urged to make YouTube videos and submit them via internet on their YouTube channel at youtube.com/coldplayingTV.

The video cannot exceed 5 minutes in length. There will be one winner each in Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Hartford, Philadelphia, and San Jose, California. The grand prize includes an opportunity to play for up to 20 minutes as the opening act for the band, $2,000, and ten tickets to the Coldplay's concert for their friends.

The contest will run until July 7 at the latest, depending on the city. Good luck!

The top executives of EMI Music were in attendance at Coldplay’s Monday night show, including Jeff Kempler, COO of Capitol Music Group, and Vicorit bassetti, Head of Government Affairs, Amani Dunkan, Head of Marketing, Colin Finkelstein, President EMI, Edna Abad, VP Artist Relations, Chris Anokute, VP A&R, and Jeanne Meyer, VP of Corporate Communications. Also sitting behind this team was Actress Charlize Theron and Johnny Barbis, Elton John’s Manager. After the concert the Chris and the band members celebrated together with EMI on the rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel. The album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends has been #1 in both the US and Europe. The band has focused on quality over quantity and we are hoping that Coldplay renews their contract with EMI; however, that will be dependent Guy Hands and the new management, along with the development of Artist Relations at EMI. The addition of Brian Eno and Markus Dravs as producers on the album, contributed to its strength. Violet Hill will be released on Guitar Hero.
