Ashanti will be making her theatrical debut! She’s set to play Dorothy in
The Wiz, an urbanized version of the classic
The Wizard of Oz.
The theater community is a little shocked by casting, since the role was rumored to be going to former IdolTamyra Gray or Anika Noni Rose. But Ashanti landed it!
The revival will be a part of
Encores! Summer Starts series in New York City. The musical will play June 12th through July 5th.
We think Ashanti is great for this role! She’s been very successful as both an musician and an actress, and this combines her two loves.
