Ashanti to Play Dorothy in The Wiz

Ashanti will be making her theatrical debut! She’s set to play Dorothy in The Wiz, an urbanized version of the classic The Wizard of Oz.

The theater community is a little shocked by casting, since the role was rumored to be going to former IdolTamyra Gray or Anika Noni Rose. But Ashanti landed it!

The revival will be a part of Encores! Summer Starts series in New York City. The musical will play June 12th through July 5th.

Mariah Carey And Miley Cyrus Team Up To Beat Cancer

Dozens of female artists are joining together for a good cause. Mariah Carey , Beyonce , Mary J. Blige , Rihanna , Fergie , Sheryl Crow , Miley Cyrus , Melissa Etheridge , Ashanti , Natasha Bedingfield , Keyshia Cole , Ciara , Leona Lewis , LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood have all collaborated one one song that will be making quite an impact on the airwaves September 2nd.

The song is called Just Stand Up, and the proceeds from iTunes sales will benefit cancer research.

The song was created by LA Reid, and produced with Babyface.

She plays the part of a 60's style desperate housewife who kisses her hubby goodbye for the day, and proceeds to clean house, but not without having a little fun herself.

This is the first single off her new album, The Declaration, which is her fourth. The video was directed by Melina and produced by Hagai Shaham.

Ashanti To Quit Music For Movies?

The music-to-movies career is definitely the trend right now, and the latest singer to jump on board is Ashanti. She's already starred in Resident Evil, John Tucker Must Die, and Coach Carter, and she feels she's been bitten by the big screen bug.
