In this economy, everyone’s worried about the money, and that includes the owners of movie theaters across the country. They’re all worried about which movies to put on their marquees based on who’s in the film. Because if the movie tanks at the box office, chances are, they’re hurting as well!
Theater owners across the country were just polled for their annual survey by Quigley Publishing Co. to reveal which actor or actress generates the most box office revenue for them. And that person is Will Smith! They can probably single-handedly thank Hancock for that, which made over $100 million in the first week it opened.
Coming in second on the list is someone we thought would come in first this year: Robert Downey Jr.! Iron Man and Tropic Thunder were both huge movies this year, but not big enough to catch Will. Here are the top ten money generators for 2008:
