We’re sure a few million Twilight fans might disagree. The Vatican apparently doesn’t appreciate
New Moon just as much as we all do. Are we surprised?
The Catholic Church released a statement today to express their feelings about the sequel, which opens in theaters today. The Vatican's culture council leader, Monsignor Franco Perazzolo said: "This theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that, as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element.”
He added, "This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern."
The Vatican has lessened their strict stance on other recent movies, however, including the most recent Harry Potter film and calling the sequel to The Da Vinci Code "harmless entertainment".
