Kevin James co-wrote, co-produces and stars in "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," a hilarious comedy about a shopping mall that is overtaken by a gang of organized crooks.
"Adam Sandler and Happy Madison wanted me to do a movie on my own. It was a scary step, but I wanted to make sure it was something that I believed in, and thought I could be funny in. And this was it. I was excited to play this guy. I wanted to play someone you can root for," James told Hollyscoop.com exclusively at the press junket for
Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
James, who admits he's never worked at a mall said he wanted to play someone that everyone can relate to. "He's an everyday guy that may take his job too seriously and gets in his own way," he said. "But he's a nice guy with some good qualities."
With the current economic crisis, James believes that watching a movie is a great escape. And if you're going to head out to the theaters, might as well what a comedy, right? It's always nice to laugh," he says. "It's nice to escape a little bit and forget about your problems and see a chubby guy," he joked.
