Critics Slam New Moon

We highly doubt any real Twi-hard cares what the critics think, but the initial ratings for New Moon are less than par. Any fan of the book series knows Edward disappears for most of New Moon. But that leaves room for plenty of Jacob!

Nonetheless, numerous critics have spoken distastefully about the Twilight sequel, and here’s what they have to say:

Roger Ebert: “The Twilight Saga: New Moon takes the tepid achievement of Twilight, guts it, and leaves it for undead. You know you're in trouble with a sequel when the word of mouth advises you to see the first movie twice instead.”

Boston Globe: “Sorry girls, the thrill is gone. The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second installment in Hollywood’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s mega-selling vampire romance series, is an anemic comedown after the full-blooded swoon of last year’s Twilight.”

USA Today: “What bogs down this tale of teenage Bella (Kristen Stewart), her vampire beau Edward (Rob Pattinson) and werewolf buddy Jacob (Taylor Lautner) is the morose nature of Bella and Edward's romance. Though an improvement over the first Twilight film, this sequel drags and sputters, even in scenes meant to be infused with passion.”

Variety: “Fangirls may be disappointed by Pattinson's reduced presence here, as his Edward appears predominantly in mumbling visions until a cliffhanger that brazenly sets up the next episode. Lautner's Jake provides a strong alternative to Edward's pale dreariness, though the filmmakers overdo the ‘strong’ part in an ongoing effort to keep their target audience enraptured.”

Did you see the film last night on its opening day? What did you think of the much-anticipated sequel?

Let's face it, these guys *aren't the greatest actors in the world. But they look good. Don't get me wrong, I ultimately liked the books, but the writing sucked. *correction*

I'm actually really surprised over Roger Eberts comment...I thought the movie was amazing....I thought Chris did a great job on this movie....yeah they could have made the movie a bit longer and went more indepth with the relationship between Bella and her Father and how they got closer and maybe went further with the emotion Bella was going through and not just having Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan come up on the screen which I did think was great but to have it a bit longer and also the relationship between Edward and Charlie when Edward comes back.....with that being said I still thought the movie was amazing. Also I dont feel Taylor Lautner is getting the credit he should. People are saying "New Moon starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner"....as much of a fan of Robert Pattinson I am it should be stating "New Moon...starring Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson". I feel really bad for Taylor but hes not getting the recognition he deserves and its bul sh*t....There are alot of people who heard the ratings and were like whatever Im still going to see it. Ive noticed with ALOT of movies I see at the cinemas that they get terrible ratings and yet are the BEST movies and the ones that get great ratings suck ass!.... So people dont listen to the critics....go and see New Moon because im sure as hell going to see it again!

all critics are losers for they do not know the whole story.. all the fans were not disappointed and will never be disappointed by the fact that edward presence was lessen for all we know that's new moon is all about right? and in fact new moon was very faithful to the book compare with the first movie twilight. For all those who haven't read the book and do not know the whole story, you have no right to criticize the movie for you will look like stupid and losers for making statement that's out of your knowledge.

Of course the whole thing here is hype, and silly teeenage girls. And since this generation would not know a good actor/actress if they threw-up on them, it's a no brainer. Actors=0 Good looks=10

I thought the first one was pretty sucky compared to the book so I'm not surprised. The actors are hot but that dosen't necessarily help a poorly scripted movie.

I think all those critics have it wrong! Throw them out and get some people in there who know what they're talking about! I am a huge fan of TEAM EDWARD, however, I felt that the movie was awesome! It stuck more to the book than the first movie, which I loved as well! However, anyone who is TEAM EDWARD, will still love JACOB, as he transforms into a warewolf! The movie was better than I could have imagined! I am not the only one! The theater was completely sold out for the 12:01am showing on all their screens! During the show there was so much shutting, in a good way, gasping, again in a good way, and it had an ending that left you breathless and wanting more! Those critics obviously didn't see the movie with the TWILIGHT fans or their opinions would have changed! Get out of the way old timers, it time for a younger, more knowledgable generation to come in and be the critics! I am 29yrs. old, married, and absolutly loved the show! If your going to critize the movie, you must be crazy or old? Either way, I think anyone who saw the show would agree with me and ask all those critcs who put down NEW MOON to resign, obviously they have no clue! One last point, it is people like them who take a wonderful movie, put it down, and ruin the potential movie goers, which in turn hurts the cast, the crew, and the writer! Get lost critcs and move over because a new generation is on the rise and you are going to look stupid to many people!
