Anne Hathaway to Take on Shakespeare in the Park

Anne Hathaway is getting more sophisticated by the second. Fresh off an Oscar nomination for Rachel Getting Married, Anne has been offered a part in Twelfth Night as part of New York City’s annual Shakespeare In The Park production. Anne will be playing the role of Viola in the show that will run from July 9th-the 12th at the outdoor Delacorte Theater.

Kind of ironic seeing as though she shares the exact same name as the wife of William Shakespeare!

The press release from Shakespeare in the Park reads as follows: “This summer kicks off with a powerhouse production of one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies. The Public welcomes Academy Award Nominee Anne Hathaway as she makes her Public Theater debut playing Viola, one of the canon's most charming heroines. This beguiling comedy follows the romantic adventures of Viola and her identical twin Sebastian, both shipwrecked in the enchanted dukedom of Illyria. At the helm of this time-honored story of cross-dressing and mistaken identity, all in the name of love, is Tony Award-winning director Daniel Sullivan.”

The Public Theater Artistic Director also calls Anne “one of our most brilliant young actresses.” We couldn’t agree more! She’s one of the few that we think will do well transitioning onto the stage.

Great that she will be doing this. She is becoming one of the best actresses in the businees today.
