How long has it been since we had a super slick, super high body count kung fu action flick? Whatever the math ends up being, the answer is the same: WAY TOO LONG!
Four years after the film was announced, the red band (that means it’s not for kids y’all: super bloody) trailer for The Man with the Iron Fists has been released. And, it looks totally badass.
So here’s the deets: the film was produced by Quentin Tarantino (naturally), and then co-written by Eli Roth (Hostel) and, get this, RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, who also directed it!!!!!!
Yeah, you heard me, RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan wrote and directed a kung fu action flick!
Though he’s no stranger to popping up in pretty rad and random roles (movies like Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai and American Gangster), this will be his first stint behind the camera. Well, and in front of if, as he’s also starring in the thing!
Here's the plot: In feudal China, a blacksmith who makes weapons for a small village is put in the position where he must defend himself and his fellow villagers.
But here’s the real deal. RZA is the blacksmith, then Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung and Russell F**king Crowe grace the screen. Then they kick ass. No one has time to take names.
Clearly RZA is a big Tarantino fan, and the addition of Liu and then for some reason Grier, gives the whole thing a very sort of Kill Bill Volume 3 vibe… but lets be honest, Tarantino ripped off plenty of other directors in his day, and if you’re going to follow in someone’s footsteps for a bitchin' decapitation scene, QT’s are the shoes to try on.
