Modern Family is one of the best shows on television right now. They proved themselves in their first season and won the Emmy for Best Comedy Series.
The cast is prepared to push the envelope a little in season 2, and that means having Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet kiss on camera. Hollyscoop talked to Ferguson at the Emmys and he told us all about it.
If you don’t watch the show, Jesse and Eric play life partners Mitchell and Cameron. There are plenty of scenes with them, but none in which they show affection…until now.
When we asked Jesse why, he replied, “I ask you the same thing.”
He dished about the episode, saying, “Mitchell deals with PDA. It’s something that we have been planning for a long time actually.”
Ferguson explained that the fans actually brought up the idea first. They “demanded it on Facebook,” Jesse told us.
“It is awesome and really cool that they are that avid about it. It’s not a choose-your-own adventure show. We are really happy that they love that and wanted to suggest it.”
It sounds like he’s been wanted to do this for a long time. Ferguson told us, “It’s been something that has been in the works for awhile. When you see it it’s not a big deal, it’s a simple sweet thing.”
Jesse told us they already filmed the scene, so we’d imagine the episode is in the beginning of the season! Hollyscoop mentioned the gay kiss to Bryan Matt of Mad Men, who told us pretty much that he’d been there, done that. “We had a big kiss last year for the season premiere of season 3. I don’t know what’s everyone’s problem, it’s a kiss. Two people like each other they kiss.”
Nelsan Ellis of True Blood agreed. “It’s life that is what people do in life when they love each other; they kiss. Television should represent life. Disney or not it should represent life. There is nothing bad about two men kissing. I don’t understand the big deal to be quite honest,” he said.
We think it’s a great idea! With their fan base, they know they’ll have millions of supporters!
