Richard Gere is speaking out about his infamous kiss with Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty. He claims that the kiss was “nothing” and the warrant for his arrest in India isn’t as serious as it sounds.
As we mentioned last week, public displays of affection are a big NO NO in India and Gere's actions resulted in crowds burning effigies of the actor in Mumbai, Varanasi and New Delhi.
A warrant for both Gere and Shetty were issued early yesterday when a citizen filed a complaint, accusing the couple of committing an "obscene act".
Speaking on 'The Daily Show' With Jon Stewart last night, he said: "Me kissing the girl on the cheek was nothing.
"There is a very small right-wing, very conservative political party in India and they are the moral police in India ... they do this kind of thing quite often.
"It goes to a reputable court and it gets thrown out." That comment itself might piss off enough people and they might just end up giving him jail time to prove that they are serious about that stuff.
