Minka Kelly Talks About Her

Minka Kelly opens up about her relationship with her mother, who also happens to be a stripper.

Minka, who is most famous for her roles in Friday Night Lights and the upcoming TV reboot of Charlie's Angels, says living with a mom who was an exotic dancer wasn't always easy.

I guess she never participated in "take your child to work" day. Had she though, I'm assuming it wouldn't have been much different than an episode of "Toddlers & Tiaras."

Minka said her relationship with her mother was "pretty complicated" until her mom's death in 2008. She said her mom would get off her shift at the strip club, would wake up Minka in the middle of the night and then would want to go grocery shopping.

Her mom would also try to get Minka to ditch school to go shopping, "That was like our big Friday. She would want me to skip school. [She would say] 'Let's go spend some money!' I was like 'No, Mom, I've gotta go to school!" Minka opens up in the October Issue of Cosmopolitan.

How is that a bad thing?

However, Minka said her mom was stunning, "She was 5'11" Legs up to her ears, gorgeous. She got along on that for as long as she could."

Minka was raised primarily by her mother, whose father was onetime Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufray, but says he wasn't around much in her life. "It wasn't like he didn't want to be part of our lives. He wanted to try to do the family thing. It was my mom who was too busy having fun."

Sadly Minka's mother passed away from colon cancer and Minka remembers that a little bitterly, "I didn't know how to appreciate what good friends we were, because I just wanted her to be my mom."

Minka says colon cancer was "detectable" and continues, "talk about being reckless and not paying attention to your body."

However, the two seem to have ended on good terms, "By the time [my mom] passed, I was holding her. I was with her until her last breath. We made it."

The saddest thing about this article is that it appears in Cosmo. This article probably comes right after a story called "How to please your man without talking or using your brain" and right before another article called "The 10 ways to make love in a hot-tub in the back of a limousine."
