Transitioning from a supermodel to a Hollywood action star is a task that can prove as daunting as the plotline of a modern day Blockbuster…
Resident Evil: Retribution opens in theaters this weekend along with Milla Jovovich’s fifth appearance as the gun-wielding Alice. All the high-energy appearances brings a bit of an action role stigma, but the 36-year-old seems okay with that.
Hollyscoop caught up with Milla at the film’s premiere to talk about her new movie and her acting journey so far.
To the actress, action roles always seemed the most sexy.
“I really wasn’t interested in doing the girlfriend parts or the girl next door parts,” she said. “I wanted to play females that were stronger because I just felt like you don’t see enough of that.”
Milla has even noticed a tread of more actresses picking up on female heroine roles, a trend that she is happy to see catching on in box offices.
“I’m just really happy that now after Resident Evil and after Fifth Element … you have such great actresses like Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale are really going out there and doing great action movies,” she said.
For the actress, more women picking up more action roles means a stronger female generation is inevitable. The latest Evil installment is no exception to the trend.
More importantly - for devote fans - it will continue its consistent run at pleasing its viewers.
“Its not like a studio made franchise,” she said. “Its something we love and something the fans love!”
Fans aren’t the only ones that can’t get enough Milla… Her co-star Shawn Roberts couldn’t stop raving about her on the carpet, even if she had a habit of teasing him on set.
“Milla is a prankster so she always got me,” said Roberts. “It was the most fun I’ve ever had on a set, it was ridiculous.”
