We know, we know—the VMAs should change its name to the UGHs because that’s the sound you immediately make anytime you see a media outlet still reporting anything about Miley Cyrus’ performance. Well, prepare to UGH…
It’s been nearly eight weeks since the 2013 telecast and people are still talking about how racy the whole thing was, but if it were up to Miley it would’ve been a hell of a lot more scandalous.
The singer revealed on her MTV special last night, “Miley: The Movement,” that she originally wanted to push the envelope even further and step onto the VMAs stage partially nude.
From one ex-Disney star to another, Britney Spears, who appears in the special (she collaborated with her on a song for her next album, Bangerz), asked Miley: “You’re not going to be topless on stage are you?”
“I tried,” Miley said, “but I don’t think MTV’s going to allow it.”
Guess there’s always next year’s VMAs, Miley…
The pop singer defended her performance and her intentions behind it—nudity, foam fingers and all—because none of it was supposed to be about being sexy.
“Everyone takes the VMAs so seriously, but I just wanna come out and, like, shoot a hot dog gun,” Miley said.
“You can watch the VMAs performance and think it was hot mess, but it was a strategic hot mess. We’ve been laughing about all the news because everyone else is so serious. It’s great. Because I’m sitting here laughing, meanwhile you guys are all worked up and frazzled. I’m chillin’. I’m on to the next one. I forgot about the performance. That’s so behind now.”
