Here’s the thing: Miley Cyrus is well aware that the world is fuming over her MTV VMA performance, not to mention her behavior in general.
In the face of the backlash, the 20-year-old singer isn’t really being told anything she doesn’t already know.
“I’m messed up…I have so many f***ing issues,” Miley said to the Sunday People newspaper. “I am so f***ed up—everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up.”
“I don’t have a normal life,” she explained. “I take a hiatus every now and again, but I’m not good at that.”
After exiting “Hannah Montana,” the Disney show that first gave her a platform and all her initial fame less than three years ago, Miley defended her urge to display a different side of her personality.
“During ‘Hannah Montana’ I think people knew I was acting,” she said. “I’ve never been able to hide anything, a bit like Justin Bieber. Others who have been on kids’ shows try to act like their characters, but I’m not like that.”
“I never pretended I was as good as the Disney Channel writes,” Miley added. “You will be amazed at some of the notes I got…it’s crazy. But they can’t make people not grow up.”
