It was a bad week for celebrity relationships in Hollywood. Earlier today we got word that Avril Lavigne and her hubby Derek split and now Michelle Williams has confirmed that her and her director beau Spike Jonze are dunzo.
"The timing was impossible," she told Vogue. "I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: It just makes things more complicated."
She admitted that being a single mother also has a strain on their relationship. "I obviously don't know how to do it," she said.
Michelle also confessed that she's still not quite over Heath Ledger's death and found it impossible to move on. Spike was the first man she dated since Heath passed away.
"I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the fall and winter," she tells Vogue. "I didn't know if I could keep it all together … You console yourself by saying it's all a deepening process. But it's weird. After the first year, the pain is less intense -- it's less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away too. And that's a whole new reckoning."
Michelle seems really down to earth and is such a great mom, we're sure she'll eventually find someone that eases into her life and can be a friend as well as a partner. Losing the man you love can never be easy.
