Michelle Williams. biography
Michelle Ingrid Williams was born on September 9, 1980 in Kalispell, Montana and raised in San Diego, California. At the age of 9, Michelle was surrounded by fellow classmates chasing the Hollywood dream in which impelled her to pick up acting. To help jump start her career, Michelle decided that earning her GED at home would provide her with a realistic schedule needed to break into the entertainment business and allow her to emancipate from her parents, which would make her eligible to work more hours as a minor on set.
At the age of 16, Michelle Williams broke onto the Hollywood scene as a perplex teenager in the teen drama television show Dawson's Creek, from 1998 to 2003. Although the show was a huge hit and put all the teen stars on the map, Michelle worried that she would be typecast in teen shows and films. With Dawson's Creek on filming hiatus, Michelle took control of her career and moved to New York City to pursue her dreams of becoming a versatile actress. She landed roles in a range of films, including the Watergate scandal parody Dick (1999) opposite Kristen Dunst, the horror flick Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) with Jamie Lee Curtis, the auto-biopic Prozac Nation (2001) alongside Christina Ricci, the comedy The Station Agent (2003) and the drama Imaginary Heroes (2004) with Emile Hirsch.
In 2005, Michelle finally received the praise she was working so hard for in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain as a rancher's wife who discovers her husband's backdoor relationship with another cowboy. Michelle's critically acclaimed performance led to her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. During this time, Michelle gained personal success when she and Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger got engaged, which ultimately resulted in the birth of their daughter, Matilda Rose, on October 28th, 2005. Michelle's happiness, however, went from never-ending to non-existent when she and Heath split up in 2007, followed by Heath's tragic death in 2008.
The starlet refused to give up on the dream she and Heath were both perusing, landing roles in Charlie Kaufman's drama Synecdoche, New York (2008), the critically applauded drama Wendy and Lucy (2008) and Martin Scorsese's thriller Shutter Island (2010) with Leonardo DiCaprio. Michelle then starred opposite Ryan Gosling in the romantic drama Blue Valentine (2010), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and later appeared in the drama western Meek's Cutoff (2010).
Michelle's most recent success as a rising star came with her portrayal of the sex symbol Marilyn Monroe in the drama My Week with Marilyn (2012). Her ability to capture Marilyn's presence was praised by critics and honored with many awards, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical and a Hollywood Film Award for Actress of the Year.
