Heartthrob Michael Vartan stars in TNT’s HawthorNE with Jada Pinkett-Smith. The two play a couple struggling with a tumultuous marriage, and they often have some sultry scenes together.
Hollyscoop asked Vartan how his new wife feels about watching his onscreen romance:
“It is literally the most unromantic thing you could ever do,” Michael tells us. “There is the camera operator saying ‘now move your elbow so you can hide her nipple and kiss this way and move your hair out of her face’. I’ve never enjoyed that, even when I was single, and she knows that so she’s totally fine with it.”
Vartan met his wife Lauren Skaar in the parking lot of a Whole Foods in Los Angeles. The two hit it off and have now been married for four months. Vartan told Hollyscoop what it takes to keep a Hollywood marriage happy.
“Sometimes people can be together for an entire life and sometimes it doesn’t work after a year, sometimes it doesn’t work eight, you never know,” Michael told HS.
“But I would just say don’t marry an actor or an actress.”
Despite Vartan’s advice, costar Jada Pinkett seems to have it worked out with her husband:
“Jada has been marred to Will for years, they’re an amazing couple,” he tells us.
Vartan’s character on the show, while initially straight-and-narrow, has revealed a darker side in the latest season. So how does Michael feel about taking on this character?
“Oh, I love it. I love it. I have always said, my entire career, I wouldn’t [have] if it wasn’t for movies like Never Been Kissed and Monster In-Law so I’m certainly grateful to have done them, but as an actor the dark is always so much more appealing than the light and playing the bad boy is so much more fun and exciting.”
HawthorNE comes on TNT on Tuesdays at 10/9c.
