Michael thought he was being slick by releasing private phone conversations he had with Lindsay's mother Dina, claiming it's legal to record phone conversations in New York--but he was violating a protective order this whole time.

According to reports, Michael demanded over $100,000 for the audiotapes of Lindsay and her mother Dina Lohan sobbing to him in various voice mails.

New York Post's Page Six reports Michael demanded $100K for the tapes, and when he couldn't get that much for them, he eventually released them for free...
