The Jackson family said their official goodbyes to
Michael Jackson at his memorial on Tuesday. But they’ll be paying their respects a second time at today’s memorial being held in Michael’s hometown of Gary, Indiana.
The mayor’s office told
Us Weekly that Joe Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson will all attend the public event, which will begin at 6PM tonight at the Steel Yard baseball park, which is just a couple miles from Michael’s childhood home.
We can imagine this will be a pretty significant event tonight. Michael lived in Gary until he was 11 years old. The family moved in 1969 when Jackson 5 became famous.
The only confirmed singer for the event is Gary native singer Deniece Williams ("Let's Hear It For the Boy").
The Chicago-Sun Times reports that a 500-member choir singing “We Are the World” will also take the stage. Gary officials are describe it as "an evening of entertainment," with lots of Michael Jackson music and videos.
