Michael Jackson fans have committed suicide after learning their icon has passed away. And hundreds more are reportedly having thoughts about ending their lives because the grief is too much to bear.
According to the president of Jackson fan club called MJJCommunity, at least 12 fans have committed or attempted suicide in the wake of Michael’s passing.
Pavel Talalayev, a Russian Jackson impersonator who spent thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery to look like him, was among the first to attempt to take his own life.
Pavel told Britain’s
Sky News, "I started receiving calls from other fans, I tried to calm them down…And then I let myself go. I don't know why the doctors saved me. I want to be with Michael."
Rev. Jesse Jackson has spoken out in response to this deaths and attempted suicides. He spoke out to give a message of hope to fans who are contemplating their own deaths.
In his message, the Reverend said, "This is a time when hearts are heavy. There is great pain but great cause to celebrate Michael's life. It made Michael happy saying 'We Are the World.' Don't self destruct.
"We fall down sometimes, we get back up. That's the right thing to do. In Michael's name let's live together as brothers and sisters and not die apart as fools."
