Michael Douglas lied about his cancer. Not about having it…but about what kind. Michael Douglas does NOT have throat cancer…he has tongue cancer.
So why did Michael lie about the logistics of his cancer?
Well, because tongue cancer is not an easy cancer for people to understand…if it came to it, Michael would have had to remove part of his jaw and tongue, leaving him completely disfigured. Imagine having to explain that during an interview to promote some movie?
Michael talked to the UK talk show, “This Morning” and revealed why he lied about his diagnosis.
“This was right before I had on a big tour for 'Wall Street,' so we kind of said there’s no way we can cancel the tour and say we don’t feel well,” says Michael, “The surgeon said let’s just say it’s throat cancer. I said, ‘OK, you don’t want to say it’s tongue cancer?’ I said, ‘Why’s that?’ and he said, ‘Well if you really want to know why, if we do have to have surgery it’s not going to be pretty. You’ll lose part of your jaw and your tongue and all that stuff.’ So I said, ‘OK, sure.’”
Basically, Michael didn’t want to get into the details of the disease, which might not be “TV friendly” for some.
The more you know.
