Michael C. Hall. biography
Michael Carlyle Hall was born February 1, 1971, in Raleigh, North Carolina, and graduated from Ravenscroft High School in 1989. He went on to graduate from Earlham College in 1993, with hopes of becoming a lawyer, but quickly discovered his true interest when he attended New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts.
After graduating in 1996, Michael's acting career launched off a theatre platform with a performance in Shakespeare's Cymbeline, two years later. In 1999, director Sam Mendes cast Michael as Emcee in the Broadway revival of Cabaret. He also starred in many off-Broadway productions, including Henry V at the Public, The English Teachers for Manhattan Class Company and Corpus Christi at Manhattan Theatre Club.
Michael made his debut TV appearance as David Fisher in Six Feet Under after Sam Mendes recommended him for the role to director and writer Alan Ball. His performance left little to disappoint, earning him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and an AFI Award nomination for Actor of the Year in 2002. In 2003 and 2004, Michael won the Screen Actor Guild for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. During this time, Michael made his big-screen debut in the thriller Paycheck (2003).
In 2006, Michael landed his most memorable character to-date as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department in Showtime's series Dexter. His performance as a vigilante serial killer led Michael to win the 2007 Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Drama and a nomination for the Golden Globe award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series in 2007 and 2008. He also earned three Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2011, Michael was nominated for an Emmy for Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series and the show was renewed for a seventh and eighth season.
Michael's other projects include, the sci-fi thriller Gamer (2009) with Gerald Butler, voice-over work for Dodge commercials, the comedy film Peep World (2011), The Trouble with Bliss (2011) and the biopic Kill Your Darlings (2013) alongside Daniel Radcliffe.

They made their marriage public when they arrived together at the 2009 Golden Globes. A year later, both of the couples' reps confirmed their separation. In December 2010, Carpenter filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking spousal support.
