Finally Meryl Streep gets the recognition she deserves. I mean, Meryl Streep is a very underrated actress, for sure. Talk about an underdog! Kidding, Meryl Streep has been nominated for 17 Oscars! However, she’s only won three times, tonight marking her first win since 1983 when she won for “Sophie’s Choice.”
Streep makes her way to the stage, waving to the audience and asking everyone to calm down.
Streep jokes in her acceptance speech, “People at home are probably saying to themselves, ‘Ahhh, c’mon her again?’ But whatever,” Meryl joked.
She also thanked her husband right off the bat, with tears in her eyes, saying “When you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play it out with music.”
Hollyscoop talked to Meryl on the red carpet before her big win to find out if she had a good luck charm on her for the day. "I have shoes that Ferragamo made [me] because he made all of Margaret [Thatcher]'s shoes," she told us.
Everybody was crying, especially Octavia Spencer, but that girl loves a good cry.
She also thanked make-up artist J. Roy Helland who she’s worked with on dozens of films for the past 37 years and was happy to hear he had finally won an Oscar.
She finished her speech by thanking her friends and colleagues and of course the other nominated actresses in the category which included Glen Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Viola Davis (“The Help”), Rooney Mara (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”), Michelle Williams (“My Week With Marilyn”).
