Meryl Streep graces the cover of
Vanity Fair for January, and discusses her enormous success she’s had in movies, and continues to have at age 60.
The article takes an in-depth look at how Meryl has become the new “box-office queen.” They discuss her recent hits like
Mamma Mia, which grossed $601 million worldwide,
The Devil Wears Prada, which brought it $324 million, and most recently,
Julie & Julia, which has earned $121 thus far.
Meryl has yet another film coming out this Christmas called
It’s Complicated, which features her character wrapped up in a love triangle with
Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. Meryl dished to
VF about how she’s managed to play the love interest in films at her age.
“It’s incredible,” she says, “I’m 60, and I’m playing the romantic lead in romantic comedies! Bette Davis is rolling over in her grave.”
Streep continues, saying, “I’m very fucking grateful to be alive. I have so many friends who are sick or gone, and I’m here. Are you kidding? No complaints!”
Meryl also says the key to being happy with her age and with her career is not being concerned with her looks. "I can't remember the last time I really worried about being appealing,” she tells the magazine.
In a world of botox and plastic surgery in young Hollywood, it’s very refreshing to hear a seasoned actress keep it as real as Meryl does.
