Remembering The Original Cast of "The View"

It's hard to believe The View has been on for more than ten years. And while we love Whoopi Goldberg's farting and Elisabeth Hasselback's isolating conservative outlook amongst her peers, I remember the good old days with the original cast.

The chemistry was there and they each had distinct personalities. The View was the perfect career launcher, and while only Joy Behar and Barbara Walters remain, Joy has had plenty of outside success, too.

It seems just like yesterday that I was drinking my coffee and getting ready for work while watching Katie Couric's Today show exit. Five years later, and Meredith Vieira is having hers, trying to hold back the tears, because lord knows the woman doesn’t have much moisture to spare these days.

She still looks good, but getting up at 3:00 am and putting up with Matt Lauer every day for five years will run its course on you. But hopefully it was worth it for Meredith, and we're tallying our five favorite Meredith Vieira Today show moments:

Meredith Vieira Confirms She's Leaving Today Show

After five years on the Today Show, Meredith Vieira announced this morning that she's leaving the show next month to take care of her ill husband.

Anchor Ann Curry will replace Meredith alongside Matt Lauer. So far no word on whether Matt will stay on board once his contract expires next year.

"This is a difficult day for me. I'm trying hard to hold it together," Vieira said while laughing and holding back tears. Her final day will be "in a few weeks," said co-host Matt Lauer.

The Naked Truth About Meredith Viera

We all know Meredith Viera as the wholesome, matronly host of the Today Show. But what you may not know about her past might surprise you!

All week on the morning news show, the anchors have been paying tribute to the people who helped shape their careers as budding journalists. And long before she was on The View, Meredith was baring it all just for a paycheck!

Jay Leno actually revealed Meredith’s past as an anchor on the infamous Naked News, saying, “I’ve known Meredith a long time. But I did not know this!”

As the clip played during this morning’s broadcast, Meredith insisted she only did it for one month. Al Roker teased her, saying, “Who was your mentor, David Letterman?”
