Melissa McCarthy Got Fired For Yelling at a Drunk Guy

Melissa McCarthy got stiffed before she got her big break.

The Bridesmaids actress says that the very first time she got fired, it was while she was working at a restaurant in New York City. But she had a good reason—she ran after a drunk guy that bailed on his tip.

"Some guy that was incredibly bombed left like an $1,800 bill," the Emmy winner says. "Security was supposed to catch him, but they didn't. I went and found him two bars down, still drunk."

What is security for if not to stop people from stealing? Well, leave it to Melissa McCarthy to put a man in his place.

McCarthy said she brought the jerk back to the restaurant and made him pay his huge bill. Melissa said he "was like 6'4" and he was screaming down at me."

It's official, Melissa McCarthy is a bad ass. But her employers didn’t see it that way: "They fired me for yelling at a customer," McCarthy admits.

Recently, the actress recalled another funny story, and it involved Spanx!

Melissa told Ellen DeGeneres that she put some Spanx on while getting ready for work. When she left the house, some construction workers were building a fence in her front yard when she walked out the door. They started staring at her, and that's when she looked down, realized her pants were off, and saw "nothing but flesh colored Spanx."

"It was horrifying," McCarthy recalled.

And this is coming from a woman who got famous with uncontrollable belching, so it must've been pretty embarrassing.

McCarthy might have lost her job as a waitress, but she's recently been granted with yet another gig: the face of Ivory soap. Melissa will be the new spokesperson for the brand.

"I grew up using Ivory, and that smell always reminds me of when I was a kid," McCarthy says of the soap. "As a working mom of two, I love anything that simplifies my life. So when one bar of soap can handle backyard dirt, spaghetti hands and the unidentified crusty bits under my girls' necks, I'm in."

Jay Sethi, Ivory brand manager, discussed the company's decision to go with Melissa: "Melissa's humor, simple charm and down-to-earth attitude fit with every bit of Ivory’s persona. More than refreshingly honest and sincere, she is every woman and a modern mom, and we think our fans will absolutely love her."
