Mel Gibson's wife has filed for divorce. Robyn has stuck with the actor for 28 years of marriage, and even stayed with him after his embarrassing arrest in Malibu in 2006.
The couple signed divorce papers on Thursday of last week, and filed them this morning. According to
TMZ, irreconcilable differences were the reason for split.
Mel and Robyn released a joint statement to the press today, saying, “Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so.”
Robyn is reportedly seeking joint physical and legal custody of Thomas. She is also requesting the court grant her spousal support from the actor.
Robyn has reportedly hired Laura Wasser, who has handled other high-profile divorces for celebrities including
Angelina Jolie and
Britney Spears. According to TMZ, Mel and Robyn did not have a prenuptial agreement.
Radaronline.com had posted photos of Mel with a mysterious woman in Costa Rica. They appeared to be embraced in a kiss in one of the photos, so we're assuming that didn't sit well with his wife Robyn.
“Mel sort of took hold of her and she came willingly into his arms. They put their arms around each other and kissed pretty passionately for about four or five seconds," an eyewitness told Radar.
It's a shame that after 28 years, a rendezvous with some woman ultimately ruined a their marriage. What was Mel thinking?!
