Last night Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe came out for the "American Gangster" movie premiere in Los Angeles. The film, which is directed by Ridley Scott, explores America during the 1970s when drug lord Frank Lucas ruled the streets.
Hollyscoop hit the red carpet and caught up with Denzel Washington about his role as Lucas.
“The first time I was looking at doing this movie Antoine (Fuqua) was going to direct it but dropped out…Then I dropped out. About a .5 to 2 years later Russell Crowe was attached to it and I liked the new idea. It's an interesting story. Two very interesting men and a great filmmaker. So it was a combination of the two," Washington told Hollyscoop exclusively. Russell said he took the role because “a lot of the information in this movie is going to be shocking.”
Mel Gibson also made it out for the premiere after a tough week dealing with the Malibu fires. When asked what his Gangster ride was he replied “a Pontiac”!
Finally, no red carpet is complete with a Britney Spears question. When Denzel was asked about his thoughts on the pop star he replied, “I pray for her and I hope the best for her. “
