Matthew McConaughey To Plant Levi's Placenta

Matthew McConaughey
Planting a tree using your baby's placenta may sound weird, but it's more common than you might think. That's what Matthew McConaughey is planning on doing, and somehow it doesn't surprise us. He kept the placenta from his son Levi's birth in July and plans to plant it in an orchard. In an interview with CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Matthew told him that he hopes it will help fertilize the land. It's also a part of an age-old ritual of several cultures.

He says, "It's going to be in the orchards and it's going to bear some wonderful fruit. When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river … and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength. This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous."

Matthew turns more and more hippie with age. It does seem strange to do such a thing, but at the same, it's kind of cool!

I would have been disappointed if Matthew had not chosen such a remarkable thing to do to celebrate the birth of his first child. Way to go Matthew, you truly are a man.

This is a new one. I've heard of keeping the placenta in case the child becomes ill in the future, but to plant it, is he nuts?

I do believe you can freeze a placenta, but I never heard of planting it under a tree.
