Matt Damon: My Celebrity Friends Are Like Prisoners

Matt Damon has been bragging about how he lives a low-profile life, so to punish him, we’re going to talk all about it.

“I’m really lucky, because I have the best of both worlds," Damon explains. "I do the work that I love and need, but don’t need paramilitary troops to protect me when I walk out my front door.”

Damon says other celebrities aren't quite as lucky.

"I have friends who are like prisoners. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, for instance. They can't just go someplace. If they go for a walk, it turns into an international incident."

I’m on the fence about feeling bad for celebs. On one hand, it’s like the only job that involves being bombarded by people when you’re not at work. And that sucks. No one comes up to a cable guy when he’s sitting at a restaurant and says “OHMYGOD I love the way you hooked up my Time Warner box! Can I take a picture, ruin your meal, and then talk some sh-t about you behind your back?”

But on the other hand, Brad and Angelina own a multimillion-dollar French chateau. It's kind of hard to feel sorry for them.

Damon says that he might not get as bombarded because he’s “not as crazy as most of the other stars.”

“I don't really know why, probably because I married a woman who isn't an actress. And we live in New York," Damon said. "As long as we don't show up in typical tourist spots, we can walk the streets without being noticed. New Yorkers are very cool, they don't flip out if they see me."
