Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen designed a seriously high priced backpack, made out of fur and PETA got a bit nasty is expressing their obvious disapproval.
The celebrity twins designed the bag for the Pre-Fall 2012 collection of their clothing and accessories line, The Row. The bag, which isn't exactly breaking any creative ground in its shape, is composed of a patchwork of different shades and textures of fur.
But don’t worry, if hands full of animal fur aren’t your thing, they offer the same satchel in black shiny calf skin, slate shiny alligator and black alligator finishes.
When asked about the new bag, a spokesperson for People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) issued the following statement to Hollyscoop:
“If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin—or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes, which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals. What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators—who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain—who pay the dearest price.”
Though PETA is known for making a point by any means necessary, this whole thing seems to get slightly personal.
I mean, we like animals as much as anybody else, but, the Trollsen twins? Really?
Sorry Mary Kate and Ashley…. We just report this stuff, honest.
Anyway, speaking of “dearest price,” doesn’t $16,000 seem a bit much to shell out to carry this bag of fur or skin?
