Arizona Congresswoman's Good Friend Mary Bono Mack Talks Sarah Palin Connection in Shooting

The shooting of Gabrielle Giffords in Tuscon, Arizona last week has left everyone shocked, including her good friend, California representative Mary Bono Mack.

Hollyscoop spoke with Mack at the Palm Springs Film Festival, who referred to Giffords as “extraordinary, kind and wonderful member of congress.”

“I'm praying that her strength is going to pull her through,” Mack told us. “As we say, an attack on one member is an attack on all members, not only that but its an attack on our country and our democracy. I just ask everybody to continue to pray for Gabby's recovery.”

Since Giffords is in critical condition at an Arizona hospital, Mack has been keeping in touch with the Speaker of the House John Boehner for updates.

As for the shooter, 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, Mack says eventually his motive will come out publicly.
“Everybody is going to be quick to establish motives and find out who this guy is, take their little bit of the pie,” Mack explained.

“I'm sure we will find out who this shooter was and what his motivations were.”

We asked Mack to comment on the possible Sarah Palin connection to the shooting, but she told us she hadn’t heard that.

There’s speculation Palin is to blame for the shooting because of her crosshairs ad. In fact, right now it’s the #1 topic of conversation on Facebook, according to executive Randi Zuckerberg.

The target list is comprised of 20 “Obamacare-lovin’ incumbent seats” held by Democrats that were pushing for Health Care reform, tweeted Palin.

Mack told Hollyscoop, “Speculation can be part of the problem as well. Let’s wait, sort out the facts, I'm sure we will find out everything about this individual and incident.”

She added, “The FBI is on the scene, we know they are going to do a thorough job not only for Gabby but for the judge and the other victims in this shooting. Let's wait and speculate later.”

Today Mack released a statement today saying,

"My thoughts and prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff and the rest of the victims of today's tragedy, as well as their families.

"Congresswoman Giffords is a good friend and colleague. Gabby has worked tirelessly to improve the civility in Congress, earning her the respect of people everywhere. Having worked with her, I know she is a strong woman with a passion for life, family, friends and our country. Let us all pray for the strength to carry Gabby through this terrible ordeal.

“This event is a personal tragedy for everyone involved, and indeed a tragedy for our nation."
