Hot on the heels of Tom Cruise’s statements comparing acting to fighting in Afghanistan, Mark Wahlberg, who’s starring in his own upcoming war movie (which coincidentally takes place in Afghanistan), weighed in, serving up all kinds of much-required realness.
While he wasn’t asked explicitly about Tom, you couldn’t help but make the correlation. At the premiere of his film Lone Survivor, Mark’s truthful statements took the audience by surprise after he was asked seemingly harmless questions about his rigorous training from the moderator and went off on this tangent (excerpted):
“For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh, I went to SEAL training’? I don’t’ give a f*ck what you did. You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as being in the military? How f*cking dare you, while you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.”
“I don’t give a sh*t if you get your a*s busted. You get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room. You get to order your f*cking chicken, whatever the f*ck it is.”
“I’m sorry for losing my sh*t. Don’t ask any more questions tonight.”
In short, while Mark’s current film may be about war, the actor appears to be on a crusade against Hollywood privilege.
