I guess Angelina left some for the rest of us. Six months ago, SVU star Mariska Hargitay adopted a baby girl, Amaya Josephine. The adoption made the actress want more babies, giving her full-blown baby fever. Because right after that, she filled out papers to adopt for a second time.
Well, fast forward six months later and Mariska has a son, Andrew Nicolas Harigitay Hermann. He was born over the summer.
Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, were needless to say, thrilled:
"We never in a million years thought it would happen this quickly, but something inside of us knew that this was right, and we said, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’” says Hargitay.
Hargitay is also mom to five-year-old son, August. She says the new addition feels perfect.
“We knew this was our guy. Everything about it felt right. It felt divinely right.”
Well, I should hope so. I can only imagine Mariksa sending a baby back and telling the adoption agency, "Can we get an exchange? This one just doesn’t feel right."
The actress says she plans to continue working four days a week, and while two babies is a handful, she's loving it. Andrew and Amaya have also already bonded.
"They’ll lie in the crib together, and she’ll hold his hand and put her arm around him,” says Hargitay. “She’s already so protective of him.”
Is it just me, or does 2011 seem to be the Year of the Celebrity Baby? Quite a few celebs have adopted this year.
There was Denise Richards, who somehow managed to adopt this year, despite having the loose cannon that is Charlie Sheen in her circle of friends. In July, Denise brought home Eloise Joni.
"She's brought so much joy, and I love her to pieces," Richards said.
The Help star Viola Davis also adopted recently. During Davis' acceptance speech at the Elle's Women in Hollywood gala on Monday, she thanked her husband, Julius Tennon, and "our new baby Genesis."
And like her character on Sex and the City, Kristin Davis adopted a baby girl earlier this month. Davis welcomed Gemma Rose into her family and said, "This is something I have wanted for a very long time. Having this wish come true is even more gratifying than I ever had imagined. I feel so blessed.”
